Couplings & Spindles
Universal couplings and spindles play a critical role in ensuring the alignment and efficiency of rolling mills, especially when dealing with vibrations, misalignment, and angular inclination at the drive side. These components are designed to connect different parts of the rolling mill system, ensuring proper transmission of power and minimizing issues like vibrations and misalignment that could affect the rolling stock’s tolerance.
Universal Couplings
Type: Palm end type
Spindle Material: EN-9
Material of Universal Coupling Head: EN-9
Material of Pads for Universal Couplings: Nylon
Purpose & Construction of Universal Couplings: Universal couplings are designed to eliminate misalignment or angular inclination at the drive side, ensuring that the rolls form a properly aligned, right-angled matrix in relation to the pass line.
These couplings help mitigate the effects of vibrations, which could negatively impact the precision and tolerances of the rolling stock.
The universal coupling and spindle sets are connected to the output shafts of the pinion stand and the rolls of the mill stand.
Each set typically includes:
Two coupling head assemblies
One spindle
Universal Spindles
Provision for Support: Spindles are designed to provide support to ensure their proper functioning in the system.
Set Composition:
One spindle
Two coupling heads (grease bath type)
Detailed Features of the Universal Spindle and Coupling System:
The coupling head assembly is fitted with sleeves and necessary fitments, which include non-ferrous slipper pads (referred to as “Elobrate”).
The entire assembly ensures proper functionality under dynamic loads and operating conditions, ensuring that there are no vibrations that could affect the performance of the rolling mill.
These components are designed to handle heavy-duty operations, maintaining precision and minimizing the effects of vibrations or misalignment.
